A ute driver has been charged after he was allegedly detected driving unlicenced with methamphetamine in his system in the NSW central west.

Police said highway patrol officers pulled over the vehicle in Dubbo yesterday after they saw a “poorly loaded” ute had “obscured” the car’s number plates.

A plate check found the man was allegedly unlicenced and that the number plates that belonged to another car.

Officers said they carried out a drug test on the man, which allegedly returned a positive reading for methamphetamine.

Police also alleged the man was out on bail and was caught calling and texting someone he was prohibited from contacting by an apprehended violence order (AVO).

The man was charged with drive while licence refused, breach AVO, breach bail, goods in custody and a range of other traffic offences.

He was bail refused and is expected to appear at Dubbo Local Court today.
