A 20-year-old man has been arrested at Melbourne Airport following a string of car fires and a targeted shooting in Melbourne’s north last year.
Victoria Police together with the Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force made the arrest shortly before 8pm on Saturday.

He has since been charged with multiple offences including home invasion, use of a firearm and three counts of criminal damage by fire.

The charges follow two separate incidents at a home belonging to underworld figure Mohammed Charif in Fawkner.

The first occurred about 11pm on December 23, when two male offenders attended the home in an alleged stolen white Suzuki Swift.

Police were told one of the men fired shots at the front door, while the other man armed with a firearm attempted to force entry into the home, but was unsuccessful.

The two men fled the scene in the Suzuki Swift.

Three people were inside the home but were not physically injured.

Police said the stolen car was found burnt out with a firearm inside on Fashion Parade in Broadmeadows.

Police will allege a group of offenders ran from a vehicle, pouring accelerant into the driveway of the home, before setting a blue Toyota Camry parked in the driveway alight.

They then fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.
