A man has died after allegedly being pulled out of a car and stabbed – leading to two men being taken into custody.

Emergency services were called to a busy carpark in Hope Island, on the Gold Coast, about 2:20pm on Monday following reports of an alleged attack.

Upon arrival they found a 21-year-old man with severe knife wounds to his chest. He died at the scene despite the desperate efforts of paramedics.

Police launched a ground, water and air search this afternoon for two men known to the alleged victim.

The manhunt led to the arrest of two 23-year-old men, one from Surfers Paradise and the other from Redbank Plains, just hours later.

A police helicopter, water police and the dog squad were deployed to help search for the men which led them to the Pines Golf Course on Sanctuary Cove, a nearby luxury resort.

A local allegedly saw a ‘suspicious looking’ man running across the fairway on the golf course, adding that he ‘definitely wasn’t playing golf’.

About 100 patrons were forced to remain inside the clubhouse under the guard of armed police, the Courier Mail reports.

The two men are understood to have left a nearby tavern and approaching the alleged victim just prior to the incident.

Queensland police confirmed there is ‘no threat to the public’ after the arrests.

One local said they had ‘not seen so many police cars in one place’ after officers descended on the scene.

Another claimed police were stopping and searching every vehicle leaving a shopping centre just metres away from the crime scene.

‘It’s scary to think, especially in this area, that this is happening right in a carpark,’ Hope Island resident, Linda Novicky, told 9News.

‘It’s quite unsettling being a resident here.’

A Queensland Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that a crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
