The car failed to stop for officers as it turned into Hoxton Park Road and a pursuit over several kilometres began.

The Ford allegedly reached speeds up to 170 km/h in the sign-posted 70 km/h zone and went through a red light.

Shortly after the car pulled over and its 17-year-old male driver, who holds a learner licence, was arrested.

He had one female passenger, also aged 17, but was unaccompanied by a mandatory supervisor while driving.

Police searched the car and found three grams of cannabis in the boot.

The driver was bailed to appear before court at a later date.

His licence was suspended on the spot and the number plates were confiscated from the Ford for three months.
