Police allege the 19-year-old seriously assaulted the pair, before leaving the scene.

Norton died from critical head and other injuries, while his wife was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital where she remains.

It’s understood the family dog was also injured after attempting to intervene. The dog was taken to an emergency vet, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The 19-year-old man was arrested by police about 9.20am in Kingsley.

Police believe the man is known to another male who resides at the same home.

He has since been charged with murder and attempt to unlawfully kill and will appear before the Joondalup Magistrates Court on today.
