A man has been seriously injured after crashing an allegedly stolen motorcycle into a tree while avoiding police in Adelaide.

In the early hours this morning about 1.30am, a police patrol car tried to stop a black Kawasaki motorcycle on Thistle Avenue in Klemzig.

Police allege the rider failed to stop and sped away.

“Police did not pursue the motorcycle,” police said.

Not long after that, the motorcycle collided head-on with a tree.

Paramedics were quickly on the scene to treat the rider, a 38-year-old man from Enfield, who was taken to hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Local residents told 9News the bend the rider crashed on is notorious for collisions, with one even labelling it “dangerous”.

Police alleged the motorcycle had been stolen from a city address last week.

Investigations are continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
