A shooting just after midnight in Sydney’s west has prompted a police investigation.

Officers were called to Donnelly Street in Guildford after reports of a shooting at about 12.10am.

Police found a 40-year-old man who had suffered injuries to his lower body.

They were told the man was shot by an unknown person from a car.

The man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Later in the morning, at about 3.20am, police were called to Denison Street in nearby Carramar after reports of a car fire.

A dark blue Nissan sedan was well alight.

Fire and Rescue officers quenched the blaze. Nobody is believed to have been hurt.

Police are investigating a potential link between the incidents.
