Netflix canceled the Michelle Yeoh dramedy The Brothers Sun after one season on Friday.

The series from Glee and American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk and newcomer Byron Wu debuted its 8-episode season on January 4.

Oscar winner Michelle, 61, played Eileen, the matriarch of a powerful Taiwanese crime family, whose assassin son Charles (Justin Chien) returned to L.A. to protect her and her med student son Bruce (Sam Song Lei) after the death of his father.

‘As Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance — Charles, Bruce and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what brotherhood and family truly mean before one of their countless enemies kills them all,’ per the official description.

The series marked one of the first major projects Michelle embarked on after winning the 2023 Best Actress Oscar for her incredible performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Praised by critics for Michelle’s standout performance, The Brothers Sun started off with a bang.

Despite spending five weeks in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language series and reaching a peak position of No. 2, the show struggled to secure a broad audience, according to Deadline

It maintained a weekly view count below 7 million and slipping under 2 million during its final two weeks in the Top 10 rankings.

Consequently, it fell short of earning a renewal for a second season.

Falchuk served as showrunner and executive produced alongside Wu.

Falchuk continues his professional collaboration with Netflix, maintaining an overall deal with the streaming platform.

Michelle, meanwhile, is set to maintain a bustling schedule in the aftermath.

Notably, she takes on a prominent role in the highly anticipated adaptation of Wicked this year.
