Queensland could soon have a new top cop after Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll revealed she “may not” seek a contract extension.
Carroll’s contract comes to an end in July, but she has been under pressure on multiple issues including police staff shortages, escalating domestic violence issues, and the growing outcry on youth crime.
She told 9News last night conversations over her potential contract renewal would start soon.
But Carroll said she “may not” ask for a contract extension.
“I’m seriously considering my options and one is not asking for an extension now,” she said.
Police Minister Mark Ryan said he would support Carroll if she sought an extension to her contract.
Carroll has been the Queensland Police Commissioner since 2019.
