A group of residents have hired private security to patrol their streets after an increase in theft on Sydney’s North Shore.

The security guard began patrolling the streets of Mosman after an increase in break-ins and thefts over the last two years.

Wrightway Security Services managing director Moe Said says he started funding it but now residents paid a subscription they could opt in or out of each month.

“They all get together and all chip in and pay for our service,” Said says.

“It has made a difference.”

Said says he hadn’t heard of any theft since December last year, after the security began patrols.

He says police didn’t mind.

“Ultimately it is better for the residents, better for the community.'”
