Police were called to a licensed premises on East Parade, Sutherland, after the security guard was ambushed around 2am today, where the found the security guard unconscious.

Officers were told he was allegedly punched in the head by a patron after the patron was requested to leave the hotel.

Police performed CPR on the security guard before he was treated by paramedics, but he died at the scene.

The man hasn’t been formally identified but is believed to be in his 30s.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and is in police custody.

A crime scene has been established.
