Three teenagers have been arrested after a 65-year-old man was allegedly assaulted in a suburb in Melbourne‘s bayside on Friday night.

The man was left with upper body injuries and remains in The Alfred Hospital today after the incident in Beaumaris on Friday.

He allegedly caught the group of teenage boys – two aged 16 and one aged 15 – trying to steal items from his car on Reserve Road about 9.30pm, according to police.

The man allegedly confronted the group and then followed them in his car to the intersection of Reserve Road and Agnes Street.

“Officers were told the man exited his car and there was a verbal altercation before the group allegedly assaulted the man,” a police spokesperson said.

“Police arrived at the scene and the group fled the area on foot.”

Two of the boys were arrested on Agnes Street about 10pm, before the third was arrested on Reserve Road.

The man was taken to hospital in a stable condition with injuries, where he remains.

The teenagers were released without charge and the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident comes after a 74-year-old man was left with critical injuries during an alleged home invasion on Anita Street in Beaumaris just before 1.30am on March 25.

Liberal Member for Brighton James Newbury took to X to highlight Friday’s incidentand say his thoughts were “with the victims”.
