The terrifying moment a road rage incident escalated as a man blocked a car before emerging with a knife has been captured on dashcam footage.

A listener contacted 2GB‘s Ben Fordham on Wednesday revealing her grandson Brad, 24, her 22-year granddaughter and a friend were on their way to an NRL game on April 5 when a man stopped a white hatchback in front of them on Yerrick Road, at Lakemba in Sydney’s west.

‘My grandson had a man jump out of his car in a state of utter rage holding a knife,’ the listener said.

‘He was punching his arms into the air…  and as he approached my grandson’s car he started knifing the car.

‘My granddaughter and her friend were in the back seat. My granddaughter called Triple 0.’

The occupants of the black car could be heard repeatedly saying, 'Don't get out of the car', before the hooded man emerged from his vehicle in the rain, brandishing a knife

In frightening footage recorded from inside the car, Brad and the two passengers could be heard repeatedly saying, ‘Don’t get out of the car,’ before the man emerged from his vehicle in the rain, wearing a black hoodie and black shorts, and brandishing a knife.

The man then ran towards Brad’s car and hit the side of it.

Brad slammed his foot on the accelerator to avoid the knife-wielding man.

Brad's sister said they needed to 'call the cops' before realising their frightening encounter was not yet over - because the man was now following them

A crash was then heard, and it appeared Brad’s vehicle clipped the stationary white car while trying to get away.

Brad, his sister and her friend could be heard asking each other why the man reacted the way he did.

‘Did you not see what he was doing?’ Brad asked.

‘He had a knife in his hands,’ the friend replied.

‘Oh, my god, he’s coming after you, call the police,’ a passenger could be heard saying.

One then said: ‘I’m scared, I’m scared, I’m scared, I’m scared.’

The trio eventually made it to safety, and shared photos of the damaged vehicle including the front passenger side, and scratch marks from the man’s knife.

‘My grandson is going to find it hard to drive the car knowing what occurred in it,’ the 2GB listener said.

‘They are very frightened about what happened. He had to go up the footpath at certain points to get out of the path… because the guy was chasing him.’

NSW Police told Daily Mail Australia officers were investigating the alleged road rage incident.

‘Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation after the matter was reported later the same day,’ a spokesperson said.
