Three people have been charged after police allegedly found a 3D-printed firearm and the equipment required to make them near Perth.

It’s alleged several items linked to the 3D printing of a firearm, including a partially completed firearm and a 3D printer, were found in Coogee on December 17.

Western Australia Police said the firearm parts seized were of such a quality that the final product would have been a functional firearm.

Earlier this month, police allegedly found a loaded 3D-printed handgun hidden inside a stolen Mazda CX-7 on Forrest Highway in Glen Iris.

Acting Detective Inspector Blair Smith said in addition to the serious criminal penalties that a court may impose on a convicted illegal firearm manufacturer, there were other consequences to consider.

“Serious criminal convictions may not only lead to a term of imprisonment but can have a long-lasting impact on your life,” Smith said.

“Being convicted of offences associated with the manufacture and possession of illicit firearms, or firearm components, can impact on your employment and ability to travel overseas.”

Police urged people to proactively contact them and arrange for the safe destruction of any firearms they may have manufactured.

A 53-year-old man linked to the Coogee 3D printer was charged and was due to face court next month.

A 31-year-old man and 29-year-old woman were taken into custody after they were found in the Mazda CX-7.

The man is due to face Bunbury court on February 29 and the woman is due to face the same court in April.
