A man is fighting for life and a woman is seriously injured after they were allegedly hit by an SUV amid a neighbourhood dispute in Sydney's west.

Emergency services found a 41-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman with "significant injuries" on Cygnus Close in Doonside about 8.50pm yesterday.

Police allege the pair were hit with a car before the male driver fled the scene.

Doonside neighbourhood dispute

Officers said they were both treated for serious head injuries while the man was also treated for chest and leg injuries.

"They were both taken to Westmead Hospital with the man in a critical condition and the woman in a serious but stable condition," NSW Police said in a statement.

Officers arrested a 27-year-old man nearby and have taken him to Blacktown Hospital where he remains under police guard.
