Three men and a woman have died following a single-vehicle crash.

Shortly after 5.45am (Saturday 24 February 2024), emergency services were called to Back Channel Road, Wardell, south of Ballina in northern NSW, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District attended and located a blue Mazda BT50 utility that had left the roadway and had rolled.

The male driver and three passengers – two men and a woman – died at the scene.

A crime scene was established as specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Road closures are in place and drivers are urged to avoid the area.
