Police allege the driver was attacked by just one of the men when he unlocked his door before two more joined in.

‘It was just a violent act, it was a cowardly act without provocation,’ Senior Contstable William Daddow told Nine.

‘It doesn’t have any place in our community or our society.’

The three men then fled the scene following the incident.

‘Obviously it is a very traumatic experience,’ Snr Const. Daddow said.

‘Any incident where someone has been assaulted in such a violent fashion leaves a mark on someone.’

The CCTV footage shows a red sedan pulling away from a petrol pump just metres away from the incident while it unfolded.

Police have charged a 24-year-old St Albans man with attempted aggravated carjacking, affray, robbery, intentionally cause injury, assault in company, commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He was remanded to appear before a Magistrate’s court.
