Society president Phil Gomersall said: ‘We want allotments to be as safe as possible. One of the big issues when you go on sites is broken glass.’ But Professor Stefan Buczacki, ex-chairman of Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time, branded the advice ‘utterly bizarre’. He said: ‘Glass is a much better, more efficient material for greenhouses.’
