A baby is recovering in hospital after they were accidentally dropped in a Bondi Beach carpark and knocked unconscious.

The family was enjoying New Year’s Day at Bondi Beach on Sunday when the eight-week-old baby accidentally fell from the arms of a loved one at about 7.10pm.

Witnesses and Bondi Lifeguards were the first to respond and immediately started CPR on the unconscious baby.

Emergency services, including multiple ambulances, intensive care units and a rescue helicopter were called to the scene. 

NSW Police highway patrol closed Campbell Parade while the medical team worked tirelessly to get the baby breathing.  

Footage showed police holding red sheets on either side of two parked cars, shielding the distressing scene from the large crowd of onlookers.

Lifeguard Anthony ‘Harries’ Carroll, from the TV show Bondi Rescue, was seen with bloodshot eyes as he crouched down next to the baby and aided paramedics. 

The video also showed a man standing in between the two cars holding his head in disbelief before strapping a front-facing baby harness to his body. 

Paramedics performed CPR for about 25 minutes before the baby regained consciousness and began to cry. 

The baby’s small body was carefully lifted to a stretcher by two paramedics and was wheeled into the back of an ambulance. 

The baby was rushed to Sydney Children’s hospital and is expected to undergo extensive neurological examination.
