Thomas Tuchel may know he’s leaving in the summer, no matter what, but he’s got personal pride at stake here. He knows the size of the challenge ahead. They’re facing an Italian team, a Maurizio Sarri team, a team that will scrap and stall and get under their opponents’ skin. We could be in for an ill-tempered one.

Harry Kane is not the only Englishman starting for Bayern Munich tonight, his former Tottenham teammate, Eric Dier, also starts.

They become the first two English players in three years to start for a non-English side in the Champions League knockout stages.

The last time it happened? February 2021, when Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham started for Borussia Dortmund.

Warning, this post is talking about a very controversial topic.

As a lot of you may know, the Champions League is going to look a little different from next season, and it’s annoyed a lot of people.

I have been having plenty of chats with my mates about this, and not one is happy about the changes.

For those that qualify for the group stage in 2024-25, there will be one league containing all 36 teams. Yes, it’s completely different.

Each team will play eight different teams across their games with four being at home and the other four away.

From there the top eight sides will automatically qualify for the round of 16 knockout stage, while positions nine to 24 will battle it out in a play-off round.

It seems there is a lot of sympathy going around for Harry Kane as he looks likely to go another year without a trophy.

Tonight is huge for Lazio and that is an understatement!

Lazio have only made the last eight of the Champions League once before, back in 1999/2000 when they suffered defeat by Valencia. They are now just 90 minutes from getting there once again.

I for one couldn’t have predicted the European run they would go on this season, nor potentially knocking out Bayern on it.

Tonight could go two ways, in my opinion. Lazio could hold strong, keep a clean sheet, and win it on the counter-attack, or they will get absolutely hammered. I’ve already said I think it will be the latter.

If Bayern Munich go out tonight, Harry Kane is really going to feel as if he’s got a trophy hex upon his head. Fail to turn this around and their chances of securing any silverware are slim to nil.

My prediction? Bayern to forget about being so bruised in the Bundesliga and win this second leg 3-1, with Kane to get a couple of the goals.

There is no way of sugarcoating it, Bayern Munich are in a precarious position.

Bayern suffered a calamity in Rome on February 15, they didn’t even have a shot on target, which was the first time they failed to do so in the Champions League since 2019 against – you guessed it – Liverpool.

The sucker punch came in the 69th minute of their nightmare night in Italy’s capital as Ciro Immobile netted from the spot to give the Serie A side control of the tie.

To make things worse, Dayot Upamecano was sent off for the challenge that gave away the penalty, which is why he is missing tonight.

Only a week later, following a shock 3-2 loss to VfL Bochum, it was announced that Thomas Tuchel would be leaving the club at the end of the season, if not earlier…

It’s fair to say, Bayern fans won’t be keen on remembering that week of their lives moving forward.

I’m going to say it will be a straight forward night for Bayern, despite the uncertainty.

My prediction: 4-0 Bayern

Lazio have made only one change to the side that lost 1-0 in a chaotic match against AC Milan.

Ciro Immobile starts for the Serie A side, which is a huge relief for their fans.

Luca Pellegrini, Adam Marusic, and Matteo Guendouzi all got sent off in their loss to Milan, but can all start tonight.

It’s a big night for this line-up!

Bayern Munich are undoubtedly going for it.

Of course, Harry Kane starts up top, no one thought that he wouldn’t.

However, Bayern have made two changes from the weekend as Leroy Sane comes back into the starting 11, and so does Matthijs de Ligt.

This side is surely good enough to mount a comeback.

Yes, I know Thomas Tuchel is already set to leave Bayern Munich in the summer, but will he even make it that far?

Bayern are having their worst season in over a decade and the pressure finally told in February as Tuchel announced he would be leaving prematurely.

Despite the announcement, things have not improved for Bayern, they have only won once in their last five matches.

If they do not manage to overturn the deficit against Lazio tonight, Tuchel may have to book an early ticket out of Bavaria.

Troubling times for the six-time European Cup winners.

You must feel an element of sympathy for Harry Kane, it’s not like he’s failing in the Bundesliga.

In fact, it’s his teammates who are failing him, you wonder where they would be without his goalscoring prowess.

Harry Kane surely must be questioning if he is jinxed.

The whole reason he left Tottenham in the first place was to win trophies – he even sacrificed going for the Premier League goalscoring record – but it looks like he could end the season empty-handed again.

The German Champions have won the last 11 league titles, but Kane rocks up and they seem to have relinquished their stranglehold on the Bundesliga.

What does the English Striker have to do to get some winning luck, he has scored 31 goals in 33 games this season, and even that doesn’t seem like it’s enough.

At least he is safe in the knowledge that Spurs are set to go trophyless once again, so he isn’t missing out on anything there.

Every season for some reason I expect PSG to make a real go of the Champions League, but I don’t know why because it almost always goes wrong.

With the sides they have built over the last decade, they should have at least one title to their name. They came close in 2020, losing in the final to Bayern Munich, but other than that, it’s been more disappointment after disappointment.

This season they nearly went a step further than usual and got knocked out at the group stage, but they managed to get over the line.

You feel tonight, and this season is a huge chance for PSG to go far in the competition. After winning comfortably against Real Sociedad in Paris, you feel a quarter-final spot is inevitable.

Surely, they won’t make a mess of it in Spain.

I can’t believe this is even a post that I have to write.

We all expected that Harry Kane would be drowning in trophies by the end of this season after moving to Bayern Munich, they are almost guaranteed to win the league every season.

Well, it looks extremely unlikely that they will this season. They are ten points adrift of Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga and have been knocked out of both German domestic cup competitions.

The Bavarians even look like they could bow out of the last 16 of the Champions League tonight as they go into the game a goal down to Lazio. The last time they were knocked out at this stage was in 2019, to eventual winners Liverpool.

They have to win tonight to keep any hopes of a trophy alive, but even if they do, it’s highly doubtful they could get past the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid to win the whole thing.

It’s unfamiliar territory for Bayern – not for Kane though…

All eyes are going to be on if Harry Kane and Bayern Munich can overturn their first-leg deficit against Lazio. Going by their form though I wouldn’t be so sure of that happening.

Meanwhile, it seems like a formality for PSG, but you know they sometimes like to give us a bit of entertainment by goofing around in important games.

I can already hear that beautiful music in my head.

The Champions League is back. It may have only been two weeks since we enjoyed Europe’s premier competition on our screens, but it has felt like a lot longer.

Anyway, we have a cracking night in store for you as Bayern Munich are looking to overturn a first-leg deficit to Lazio at the Allianz Arena. At this point you have to wonder if Harry Kane is jinxed, he looks like he is set to go another season trophyless unless they can make a statement tonight.
