The scenic Portal Lookout is popular with visitors for its gorge and river views with abseiling and climbing options.

The latest incident comes hours after the body of man who vanished while canyoning in the Blue Mountains was found.

The St Ives man, 39, was canyoning with a group at the Wollangambe River at Mount Wilson on Sunday afternoon when he disappeared.

His body was found on Monday morning during a large scale search.
