A triumphant Dave tells the camera: ‘It’s been tough at times. I’ve had chemotherapy all the time we’ve been filming, it hasn’t been easy but we’ve got there and it’s a wonderful feeling.’

Si adds ‘we’ve done it, but more importantly he’s done it.’ He then starts welling up as he says: ‘He’s my mate but I love him like family, like a brother, and I’m lost for words. It’s quite remarkable what he’s done’.

‘Who knows what the future holds but for the moment I’m living in the present, and it’s pretty fine’, a smiling Dave adds.

After the credits roll, a tribute reads: ‘In loving memory of our friend, Dave Myers.’

Dave filmed his last show last year which had only just started to be shown on BBC Two when Si announced his friend had died.

The BBC decided to continue to air the series in tribute.

Earlier episodes in the series showed Si filming solo as Dave continued with his treatment.

He admitted: ‘I genuinely wish my best mate was here because he would absolutely love this,’ before adding: ‘It is odd without him’.

The Hairy Bikers have always been a double act, and Si admitted he felt odd travelling on the bike alone.

‘I didn’t like riding on my own, particularly, but I’m going to take him some produce back and have a nibble. It’s odd without him.’

As Dave returned to visit a historic railway in Portmadog, he enjoyed a lifelong ambition of driving a steam train.

The star explained: ‘When I visited this area as a young lad, Bob would have already been working on these impressive locomotives. Sadly, we didn’t have the money to ride these rails back then, so this trip feels all the more special.’

After watching his close pal lap up the experience, Si said: ‘It was nice to see my best mate driving a train. It was just lush to see a smile on his face because he had a bloody rough time.’

Si wells up as he says at the close of the show: 'He's my mate but I love him like family, like a brother, and I'm lost for words. It's quite remarkable what he's done'

Dave added:  ‘I missed this, last year Kingy, such a b****y awful year,’ before he continued with the heartbreaking words: ‘Thirty years we have talked nonsense, and yet it long continue’.

Dave announced he was receiving treatment for cancer in May 2022 and bravely kept the public up to date with his progress in a series of emotional TV specials.

He died at the end of February with his family and friends by his side, including his lifelong friend Si.

It was Si who announced the sad news of Dave’s death, sharing a tribute on social media.

A week later and Dave’s wife Lili shared a heart-wrenching tribute to her late husband on the Hairy Biker account.

'Who knows what the future holds but for the moment I'm living in the present, and it's pretty fine', a smiling Dave adds

‘I will never be able to thank you all enough for the massive wave of love, compassion and care that you have shown towards me, Simon and our families in these past days since Dave passed.

‘I want you all to know that I have read every single message and comment that you sent… your stories about Dave, your feelings you shared with me mean a lot and my heart is filled with gratitude and love.

‘It amazes me how many hearts he touched and how many people wanted to express their love for what Dave and Si have created for nearly 20 years. I know the Hairy Bikers have been part of your living rooms for such a long time and I feel your loss as much as you feel mine!

‘My husband, David Myers was a larger than life character and he did everything with passion, enthusiasm and generosity of spirit. His energy was endless when it came to cooking and talking recipes, or biking and talking bikes.

‘An amazing storyteller! And through his stories and TV appearances he was constantly inspiring and encouraging people to cook, travel, to live their life to the fullest.
