Kamala Harris will stay 100 miles away from the border during Arizona visit

Kamala Harris is taking yet another trip to a border state where she will balk her role as ‘border czar’ and avoid visiting the barrier between the U.S. and Mexico.

The vice president is going to Tonopah, Arizona, but instead of addressing the migration crisis, she will speak about investments in clean energy.

While giving her remarks, just 100 miles away migrants, asylum-seekers and illegal immigrants will continue flowing over the southern border, as they have been doing since President Joe Biden took office two years ago.

Republicans have been highly critical of Harris and Biden’s handling of the migration crisis – along with their longtime avoidance of visiting the southern border.

‘When will this Administration, and our border czar, start taking the crisis at the Southern Border seriously?’ Iowa Representative Ashley Hinson tweeted.

Shortly after taking office, Biden gave his No. 2 the task of finding the root cause of mass migration to the U.S. – specifically from Northern Triangle countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Harris will visit a groundbreaking site of a 125-mile-long high voltage transmission line known as the Ten West Link in Tonopah, Arizona on Thursday, which is just 100 miles from the southern border

Since then, Harris only went to the border once in June 2021 following pressure from Republicans to fulfill her role as ‘border czar’. It came amidst her trip to Central America to meet with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei.

Biden finally took his first trip earlier this month – nearly two years into his presidency. The stop in El Paso, Texas was just a few hours’ blip as part of a larger trip to Mexico City, Mexico for the Three Amigos Summit with Mexico and Canada’s leaders.

Harris will be joined during her trip to Arizona on Thursday by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and National Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi.

The four will visit with workers at the groundbreaking site of a 125-mile-long high voltage transmission line known as the Ten West Link, which will transport wind and solar energy through the area.

After Harris’ visit to Arizona on Thursday, she will travel to Los Angeles, California Friday for an event regarding severe storms that hit the state recently.

On Sunday, Harris will fly from California, her home state, to Tallahassee, Florida for remarks commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling – just months after the Supreme Court overturned the landmark decision and gave power back to the states to regulate or legislate abortion rights.

The remarks, which are being previewed as ‘major,’ will outline the path forward for abortion rights in the U.S. without Roe protections at the federal level.

It will also kick-off the White House’s engagement for a week of commemoration of the ruling.

Harris will return to DC after her speech in Tallahassee.

The same place where Harris is making her remarks is where just weeks earlier Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was sworn-in for his second term.

The vice president’s trip to Arizona Thursday comes as the state continues to face an onslaught of illegal immigration over the Mexico border, especially in the Yuma district.

Since Biden took office, Customs and Border Protection has encountered approximately 4 million migrants at the southern border.

This figure does not account for so-called ‘gotaways’ who were able to avoid detection or apprehension by border agents – it also doesn’t account for the thousands who crossed in December.
