A fatal shooting in Times Square caused a stampede of terrified people to flee for their lives on Thursday evening.

The shooting left a 22-year-old man dead on the sidewalk on West 44th Street and Eighth Avenue just after 5pm. Police suspect the shooting was drug-related.

Cops are searching for two suspects who fled south from the crime scene as their victim was left staggering down the street before collapsing.

Police administered first aid on the scene, then transported the man to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

It remains unclear whether or not the victim was targeted in the attack.

Cops said the two gunmen came running out of a deli and began shooting, striking the victim in the chest, before fleeing.

A witness told the NY Daily News the victim fell to the ground shaking, and that there was ‘a stampede of people trying to get away.’

‘It was a couple young dudes who shot him,’ the witness said. ‘His body was laid right out on the sidewalk. He was face-up shaking.’

‘It didn’t look like he was going to make it,’ he added.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
