The devastated family of Shyanne-Lee Tatnell has asked mourners to ‘farewell her with messages of love’.

The 14-year-old vanished while walking to a friend’s house along a dark industrial road in Launceston on the evening of on April 30.

After a massive three-month police investigation, her remains were found in remote bushland 52km away at Nabowla on July 26.

Farmer Chris Jordan, 36, who was not known to her family, has since been charged with murder.

Shyanne-Lee’s family has asked mourners to bring messages of love to her funeral service on Saturday 12 August.

‘Shyanne’s family would love to farewell her with messages of love from all her family and friends, so please feel welcome to bring a written message to be placed with her,’ her funeral notice reads.

It comes after Daily Mail Australia revealed some of the slain teenager’s relatives had clashed over a memorial site set up by kind-hearted strangers to mark the spot where she was last seen.

One woman took to a local Facebook page seeking advice on ways the community could commemorate the young girl and let her loved ones know they were not alone in their grief.

‘I don’t want hate for this, it’s just an idea,’ she began.

‘I wanted to contact Shyanne’s mum out of respect but I thought as a community there could be one day where we all get together and place teddy bears, flowers and candles at the bridge for Shyanne where she was last seen?

‘Not sure who to contact about this.’

The post sparked heavy debate with some suggesting the woman would first need to contact the family for permission, while others said the family should be left alone to grieve.

However, the woman’s query quickly caught the attention of Shyanne-Lee’s paternal grandmother Michelle Hubbard, who was touched by the sentiment.

‘I think this would be a beautiful gesture in honour of Shyanne’s life,’ Ms Hubbard said.

‘Shyanne’s story has touched the lives of so many and her family do so much appreciate the love shown during the past three months for her and her family and during this horrific time now.

‘If people want to leave flowers, teddies and candles to help with their own grief over this shocking end result, then please do.’

Ms Hubbard said the family was aware of the toll Shyanne’s death had taken on the whole community and this ‘horror story’ would ‘impact all Tasmanians for many, many years to come’.

‘Nobody ever wants their child to be remembered in this way as the dear little innocent girl that was [allegedly] murdered and dumped to rot,’ she said.

‘We would be honoured for you to begin a floral memorial for Shyanne on Henry St.

‘Thank you from her family. It does give us some comfort to know just how much our baby girl was thought of and loved.’

However, Shyanne-Lee’s maternal grandmother Tracey Ketchell disagreed.

‘Sorry to upset anyone here. I’m not treating the bridge as a memorial site. I just can’t,’ Ms Ketchell commented.

‘I’m not saying you can’t do it, as I know many people have been touched by Shyanne, I just don’t wish for Shyanne to be remembered as the girl that went missing from there as people pass over it.’

Prior to the woman’s post, a collection of flowers, notes and teddy bears had already begun to accumulate on the bridge as locals stopped by the scene in the pouring rain to pay their respects to the young girl.

A second memorial site was set up about 20 metres down the road to mark the spot where Shyanne was last captured on security footage, with dozens of girls’ hair ribbons tied to a wire fence.

‘Rest peacefully, beautiful girl, taken from this cruel world too soon,’ one note left at the site read.

‘Fly high with the angels.’

Another began: ‘Rest in peace, Shyanne.

‘I am so sad for your family and for your innocent soul [allegedly] taken away. You will forever be in our hearts.’

Her family has also organised a community picnic to be held at 12pm on August 6 at Launceston City Park to mark Shyanne-Lee’s 15th birthday.

‘As the 8th is her official birthday, we would like our privacy that day,’ the family wrote in a post.

‘You are all so very valued and without the love and support from those who cared we wouldn’t be able to have felt that others cared about her coming home to us.’
