Step aside, Salt Bae! Is this Britain’s most expensive restaurant? Sushi master’s new Park Lane eatery charges diners £420 for 18-course tasting menu and up to £220 for sake (and will seat just 13 customers at a time)

  • Sushi Kanesaka, opening in July, will have the most expensive set menu in Britain
  • It will seat a maximum of just 13 diners catered for by a team of eight chefs

A new sushi restaurant in Park Lane will see diners paying £420 each for an 18 courses tasting menu – and an additional £150 plus if they want to drink sake with it.

The pricing at the restaurant opened by Tokyo sushi master Shinji Kanesaka means it will vie with Salt Bae‘s Nusr-Et Steakhouse in Knightsbridge as the most expensive restaurant in London.

Sushi Kanesaka will seat a maximum of just 13 diners at a sitting catered for by a team of eight chefs, sommeliers and hosts.

Opening on July 1 inside the 45 hotel on Park Lane the restaurant’s £420 tasting option will make it the most expensive set menu in Britain, according to the Evening Standard. Sake pairings to go with it start at £150 rising to £220.

Kanesaka also has a two-Michelin-starred restaurant by the same name in Tokyo and will be bringing staff from there to assist in the launch of his Mayfair enterprise.

The publicity material suggests Kanesaka aims to ‘set a new benchmark for omakase dining in the city’.

Chef Kanesaka told The Standard: ‘I am honoured to introduce our culinary heritage and passion for sushi, with some of my team and chefs from Sushi Kanesaka in Tokyo.

‘We are thrilled to share the true essence of Edomae sushi, meticulously prepared using the finest ingredients, traditional techniques, and utmost dedication, transporting guests to the vibrant streets of Ginza — and the tranquillity of a traditional omakase service.

‘Dining omakase is very special and unique, an intimate personal connection between the chef and the diner.
