  • Features words:  ‘Private Property Non-commercial’
  • Believed to be a ‘sovereign citizen’ number plate

An illegal number plate has been spotted on a car in Queensland, sparking a wild reaction from hundreds of Aussies.

The number plate was spotted in north Queensland by a passing driver, who posted an image of it on Reddit.

The plate features the words: ‘Private Property Non-commercial, Living Woman, Terra Australia Incognito, Removal of this incurs a $50,000 fine.’

The Reddit user said: ‘The plate number is in 10mm high font where the red dots are. Surely this is illegal? Is this some type of sovereign citizen thing?’

They said that the plates were on front and back of the car, adding: ‘Font was too small to read from two car lengths. Plates were professionally made, this lady didn’t knock them up.’

Many Aussies believed the plate belonged to a ‘sovereign citizen’.

Sovereign citizens believe that they – not judges, juries, law enforcement or elected officials – should decide which laws to obey and which to ignore.

Most sovereign citizens also don’t believe they should have to pay taxes, considering them to be illegitimate.

As part of the strange ideology, Sovereigns believe maritime law should be used to govern – even on land.

They also believe capital letters are used on birth certificates to make individuals a corporate entity, not a sovereign person.

Aussies were quick to voice their disapproval of the sovereign citizen movement on Reddit.

‘Any money they’re calling themselves sovereign citizens but still have an Australian passport, state driver’s license and use their Medicare card,’ said one.

Another added that sovereign citizens were ‘people who believe they have some intrinsic rights to do what they want and not pay fees, levies, taxes etc, but still enjoy the benefits they bring.’

A third wrote: ‘It’s these wackos that think that the laws of Australia don’t apply to them. But ignore that when they use our government provided services.’
