He taught business education including keyboarding and digital information technology and had been employed by Volusia County Schools since 1989. He was last seen in October 2020 and his disappearance sparked a search by several law enforcement agencies including the FBI.
Heikka was described as a Caucasian male weighing 250 pounds and standing around 6 feet 2 inches tall. He had blue eyes gray hair and prescription spectacles. He drove a white 2012 Chevrolet Impala with the Florida license plate KRZ-I78.

The Disappearance of Robert Heikka
Robert Heikka was last seen on October 25, 2020. His family reported him missing on October 27 and law enforcement agencies began searching for him and his car. Heikka’s disappearance was considered suspicious and several agencies worked together to find him.
In December 2020 surveillance footage showed Heikka at an ATM close to Canaveral Shores. This led investigators to believe that he was still alive and potentially on the run.
Discovery of Heikka’s Car and Body
On Saturday afternoon a car was discovered in a canal near New Smyrna Beach less than 6 miles from Heikka’s neighborhood. The car was a 2012 Chevrolet Impala with the Florida license plate KRZ-I78 matching the description of Heikka’s car.
Upon pulling the car out of the water law enforcement discovered a body inside. While a definitive identification has not yet been made investigators believe the body to be that of Robert Heikka.
Volunteer search teams Recon Dive Recovery and Sunshine State Sonar had been searching for Heikka’s car since his disappearance in October 2020.
They used information about his last known location and cellphone ping to determine where to search. The discovery of the car and body brings an end to the months-long search for Robert Heikka.
