Chelsea’s last chance of silverware went this evening after they lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s men actually had plenty of chances to win the game.

However, a lot of them were squandered by Nicolas Jackson and Chelsea were eventually made to pay when Bernardo Silva scored in the 84th minute.

They will have a chance to bounce back with a win when they take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday.

However, it will be a hard match to recover from, perhaps for one Chelsea player especially.

Chelsea player in tears at full-time

Chelsea’s recent record at Wembley is appalling.

On top of losing today, the Blues were also beaten by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final earlier in the season.

The Reds also beat Chelsea in that competition and in the FA Cup final two years ago, and Thiago Silva has witnessed all of those defeats.

It looks like Chelsea’s latest loss at Wembley was too much for the central defender.

After the game, which was shown on BBC One (20/04/2024 at 19:16), Silva could be seen in tears after losing at Wembley once again.

Should Chelsea keep hold of Thiago Silva after Wembley display?

It was another match at Wembley for Chelsea to forget, but it was not their worst performance this season and Silva put in quite a strong display.

For example, the Brazilian made five clearances, the most in the game, according to Sofascore.

His £110,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) expires at the end of the campaign and he looks no closer to signing a new one. Pochettino has even admitted that talks over his future still need to be held.

But this performance against City alone shows that Silva still has something to offer to this Chelsea side. He really is a player they should be looking to keep hold of.
