Journalist Ben Jacobs has now given some insight into what wages one Chelsea player is looking for in their next potential contract.

He told Simon Phillips’ Substack that the player is pushing to earn a figure close to what record signing Moises Caicedo currently gets.

With Caicedo proving every week now just how important he is to the first team at Chelsea, he is finally showing signs of the player supporters knew they were getting.

Caicedo proving his worth

The Ecuadorian is in the top ten earners at the club, which makes sense given his importance. However, one player not there yet has been equally as crucial for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Conor Gallagher’s future remains unclear at this moment in time, with just over a year left on his current contract.

Even though he has played near enough every game, and captained the side on multiple occasions, there is still a very realistic world where he is not at Stamford Bridge next season.

Now, Jacobs has claimed that it is not a ridiculous pay rise he is looking for, and instead is wanting to be on par with Caicedo.

Gallagher wants to earn the same as Caicedo

He said: “It’s also worth making one thing clear: Gallagher is not being greedy, and Chelsea have not told him to lower his wage ‘demands’ despite some suggestions. Things aren’t even at that stage yet.

“Chelsea could plausibly still offer Gallagher a new deal, but nothing has progressed as of now. And Gallagher would be looking for somewhere close to what Moises Caicedo earns.

“This would put him in the top-ten earners at the club, which is hardly surprising given he’s 24, has captained the side this season and is in outstanding form.”

It has been claimed that Tottenham are one of the sides who are interested in signing the England international if he becomes available at the end of the campaign.

With top Premier League clubs reportedly believing that he would be available, they may test their luck with a bid if his contract is not sorted before then.

Despite the quality the Blues already have in midfield, it would be foolish at this stage to strengthen a rival with a player who already has plenty of experience in the Premier League.
