Chelsea’s £32m player has just received some pretty harsh criticism for his performances last season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea finished the 2023/24 campaign strongly to help salvage it somewhat. They ended up sixth in the Premier League table, which has secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League.

However, it’s another year without a trophy and Mauricio Pochettino walked away this summer as head coach by mutual consent after only one season.

The responsibility has now landed on new boss Enzo Maresca to try get the Blues back into a trophy-winning team.

Simon Jordan rips into Nicolas Jackson

TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan suggests several Chelsea players underperformed last season, which led to Pochettino’s eventual departure.

In particular, he’s named Blues striker Nicolas Jackson as an individual that failed last season.

Jordan told talkSPORT: “The Nicolas Jacksons of the world would want to spend more time rather than hitting the target with their observations hitting the target with their actions because he was a contributing factor to the reasons why they didn’t achieve things in the FA Cup semi-finals that might have given Pochettino a more compelling outcome.”

Chelsea fans should still back Nicolas Jackson

When you consider it was Jackson’s debut year as a Chelsea player, the young £32m striker (The Guardian) should be pretty pleased with his overall return.

The 23-year-old forward turned out to be the first-choice No 9 for most of last season.

He finished the campaign with 17 goals in 44 matches across all competitions.

There’s no doubt that his finishing needs brushing up on, is all-round game is well polished and he was an important individual in the squad last year.

The Chelsea Chronicle certainly wouldn’t pin too much blame on Jackson for the last year’s underwhelming season.
