Chelsea lost 4-1 against Liverpool last week before their defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness watched the game and has told talkSPORT that he was not impressed with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez and suggested that the two midfielders are not good enough yet for Chelsea.

After spending so much money on them, it is not the sort of thing the Chelsea owners will want to hear.

With the club currently sitting in 11th, though, it is quite clear that most of the players at Stamford Bridge have not been good enough in the current campaign.

They could not even bounce back from that defeat against Souness’ former club after losing 4-2 to Wolves straight after.

Graeme Souness’ verdict on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez

While Souness thinks Caicedo and Fernandez could go on to become Chelsea level one day, he says they are not turning up right now.

On the South American duo, he said: “They’ve got a couple of young midfield players that may be good enough for them one day. They spent over £100m on both of them. I was sitting down last week watching the Liverpool game and as an old midfield player that’s the first place I would look. And I’m thinking, I’ve not really seen these guys Caicedo and Fernandez.

“I’m saying come on then because I know Liverpool is a very difficult place for anyone to go and play. They’re going to be put under pressure at every minute of the game, let’s see how they deal with it, didn’t turn up.”

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez good enough for Chelsea now

You can certainly debate whether Caicedo and Fernandez were worth their price tags, but it is quite clear that they do have the quality to play for Chelsea.

Fernandez, for example, is an excellent passer. He is averaging 4.3 long balls per game this season, more than any other outfield player in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad (WhoScored).

As for midfield partner Caicedo, he is exceptional at winning the ball back, making 100 tackles in the Premier League last term (FBref).
