Cardiff are hopeful that Aaron Ramsey will turn down a money-spinning move to Saudi Arabia to return to Wales.

The 32-year-old is still in talks with Cardiff over a sensational return to the club, talkSPORT understands.

Ramsey came up through the Welsh club’s academy before joining Arsenal as a 17-year-old. He was a Juventus player for three years after leaving the Gunners in 2019.

Cardiff are hopeful that the midfielder will return to his boyhood club, though they are not the only ones interested in his signature.

A move to Saudi Arabia has not been ruled out with several clubs from the Middle East country snapping up big names from Europe.

Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Ruben Neves are among those to have made extravagant transfers to the Gulf State.

At 16 years and 123 days old, Ramsey became Cardiff’s youngest ever player. The Welshman spent eight years there, making 28 senior appearances in the process.

That included the FA Cup final in 2008 where the Bluebirds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth.

However, his situation at OGC Nice remains murky despite his contract expiring at the end of June.

That has technically made him a free agent, though there is confusion over whether his 34-appearance season has triggered an extension in the contract.

The Ligue 1 outfit have insisted that the former Juventus star is expected to turn up to pre-season training this month.

A statement on Nice’s club website on Wednesday read: “The rest of the players who were involved in international matches over the summer: Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark), Aaron Ramsey (Wales), Khephren Thuram (France U21s) and Ayoub Amraoui (Morocco U21s) will join up with the squad next week.”

Ramsey has 82 appearances for his native Wales to his name, playing a key role in their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and qualification for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
