Ahead of the summer transfer window, Chelsea have already been linked with a whole host of players.

However, it looks like one man who they have looked at will not be moving to Stamford Bridge.

Currently sitting in seventh, Chelsea obviously need to strengthen their squad to close the gap with Manchester City and Arsenal.

But they may hold off from signing a new winger this summer.

Do Chelsea actually need to sign a new winger?

On the right flank, the Blues actually look pretty strong.

Cole Palmer has impressed there and everywhere else he has played this season.

In total, the 22-year-old has come up with 37 goal contributions in a Chelsea shirt, which is incredible.

Noni Madueke has not done too badly there recently either, scoring and assisting in his side’s 5-0 win against West Ham United last weekend.

The left flank, however, is another matter.

Chelsea could regret not signing Nico Williams this summer

According to 90min, Chelsea were interested in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams but have backed away from doing a deal.

The same outlet reports that Williams has a £43m release clause in his contract, which is more than affordable for a club like Chelsea, but it is his wage demands that have put the Blues off.

It is a shame, as the left wing has been a bit of a problem for Mauricio Pochettino this term.

Neither Raheem Sterling nor Mykhailo Mudryk, one of the club’s most expensive ever signings, have been consistent enough. Combined, they have just six assists in the Premier League. Williams alone has managed to register 10 in La Liga.

As per FBref, the Spain international has also ranked in the 91st percentile for progressive carries and the 95th for successful take-ons among attacking midfielders and wingers over the last year. He could have been the perfect addition to Pochettino’s squad this summer amid Sterling and Mudryk’s struggles.
