Chelsea new-boy Christopher Nkunku has revealed his teammates warned him about Mauricio Pochettino’s brutal training sessions.
The £52million signing from RB Leipzig joined up with the Blues this summer after agreeing a move to Stamford Bridge late last year.
He is currently undergoing preparations for the new campaign with a hard-hitting pre-season training camp in the United States.
Chelsea are three games into their US tour having beaten Wrexham and Brighton before drawing with Newcastle in Atlanta on Wednesday night.
The 25-year-old admitted speaking to his new teammates about Pochettino’s infamous sessions and received the reply he expected to hear.
“I came late, and spoke with my teammates and they said: ‘It’s very hard,” Nkunku told The Sun.
The Frenchman had already left Paris Saint-Germain for the Bundesliga by the time Pochettino took the hot seat at Parc des Princes.
Needless to say, a tough training regime is part of the process and something Nkunku is not phased by.
Instead, the forward is relishing the chance to help fire Chelsea back into title contention after last season’s disastrous 12th-placed finish.
“The season of Chelsea last year wasn’t good, everybody knows this. I knew this new season would not be the same,” he said.
“This year is a new project, new year, new season. I am the new project and I am happy to be here.
“Even if Chelsea were in 15th or 16th place, it doesn’t matter for me.
“The club is not in a European competition but I want to have a main role in the team. Chelsea proposed this project to me and I am happy with it.”
And the Champions League remains a dream for Nkunku who would love to be the man to fire Chelsea to a third triumph in the competition.
He stated: “This is my goal, the goal of the club, the team and the fans. I want the club to be where they need to be.”
