It’s been another gruelling season so far to watch for the Chelsea fanbase, with the general consensus that this squad of players is desperately underperforming. However, one individual is making a giant stride forward in his own game.
The Blues finished in a miserable 12th place in the Premier League table last season. With 11 league matches left to play this year, they’re currently only 11th in the division standings.
Despite a slight increase in the points per game, the mood around Stamford Bridge right now feels bleak. But journalist Ben Jacobs claimed earlier this month on X that Chelsea are still focused on trying to make it work with Mauricio Pochettino as the head coach.
It’s hard to think of too many Chelsea players whose reputation has gone up throughout the course of the season, but there’s a few exceptions shining bright with their performances. In particular, one Blues star is statistically one of the most improved players across the entire Premier League.
Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, 24, is the player whose data shows signs of massive improvement.
From the eye test alone, the box-to-box midfielder has looked so much more settled and influential at the club during this second season in the Blues first team.
In statistics recorded by sports data company Sofascore, Gallagher ranks as the fifth most improved player in the Premier League this season compared to the 2022/23 campaign.

Chelsea can’t lose a Conor Gallagher who’s constantly improving
Gallagher is one of the few players at Chelsea this season you can rely on to start nearly every game, something he’s earned with huge consistency.
He’s chipped in with four goals and seven assists in all competitions this term. Also, the England international runs himself into the ground with incredible energy every match.
It’s statistics like above that will only further anger supporters fuming with speculation about a potential transfer exit.
Journalist Simon Phillips reported via Substack earlier this week that there’s a 50/50 chance when it comes to Gallagher staying at Chelsea beyond the summer window. All parties will wait until the end of the season before sitting down to discuss a new contract, but the Blues could sell for a suitable price.
