Daniele De Rossi considered Manchester City transfer – “We see things they’ll never see!” – That’s the cry of many Manchester City fans amidst their monumental treble success.

The Oasis lyrics have become a symbol of City’s achievements in recent seasons and are set to be sung for the foreseeable future.

Liam and Noel Gallagher are lifelong fans of the club, with the latter making regular appearances on talkSPORT to talk about his beloved team.

The iconic duo have watched City attract some of the best in the business since their takeover in 2008.

However, they almost influenced a signing of their own in Roma legend Daniele De Rossi.

An Italian midfield general, De Rossi spent 18 years of his senior career at Roma, but in 2012 was linked with a £31million transfer and a £130,000-a-week contract.

The move was rejected by De Rossi because, in his words “I am a Roman”, but his love of Oasis came into his thinking when mulling the move over.

Speaking to Roma’s website in 2016, he said: “There was a lot of talk about me moving to Manchester City a few years ago, but I’ve never wanted to leave Rome.

“What excited me the most about that prospect, however, was the fact I could have met the Gallagher brothers.

“I grew up listening to them and I know all their songs off by heart,” added the 2006 World Cup winner.

“I liked those guys, they were real characters. They weren’t always conventional or very easily approachable, but I really liked the stereotype they represented – rock stars off their head.”

De Rossi did eventually leave Roma in 2019 and sealed a switch to Boca Juniors before announcing his retirement from the game.

He won four trophies at club level, but could have added a lot more to list of accolades if he joined City more than a decade ago.

Since he was linked with a move, the Citizens have won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, six League Cups and now finally, the Champions League.

As treble winners, City’s dominance in football has spread from England across to the continent.

Liam and Noel Gallagher’s rockstar lifestyle may well have influenced the current squad in their celebrations, with Jack Grealish partying ever since full-time in Istanbul.

De Rossi also appeared to be interested and although City and Oasis maybe couldn’t have their way, the iconic band once said: “Feel no shame.”
