Mason Mount is ‘quality player’ who will help to bring stability to the Manchester United midfield, says Erik ten Hag.

The 24-year-old made the move to Old Trafford in a £55million transfer from Chelsea last week with the Red Devils making him their priority signing.

Ten Hag told the England international at his unveiling how he wanted him to be ‘very important’ for United in the future.

And he has declared that he is confident that the former Derby loan star will help bring the good times back to the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Leeds in Norway – where Mount started – Ten Hag commented on what Mount will bring to his side.

In a video shared by United’s Twitter account, Ten Hag was asked by cult hero Ronny Johnsen about the signing of Mount.

To which the Dutchman remarked: “I am sure he will contribute to the success of United because he is a quality player.

“His ambition is to play offensively, but he also wants to be multi-functional – he wants to be complete.

“And when you’re playing in midfield, you have to attack, but you also have to defend.

“But I’m sure will bring a dynamic into our game.

“And that is one of our analysis or conclusions we make after last season.

“We need more dynamic in that midfield department.”

Writing in his talkSPORT column, United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge believes that Mount will not take the club to the next level.

He said: “Manchester United apparently signed a world class player last week, but most of us aren’t so sure.

“I don’t think any fan is thinking, ‘Wow. Mason Mount’s the player that’s going to take us to the next level’ – but it’s a start after a difficult summer so far.

“I’ll admit, I was shocked when we got linked to Mount in the back end of May, because I just didn’t think that anybody who watched Man United last season would go, ‘yeah, our priority signing is an upgrade on Christian Eriksen’.

“For me, we need a goalkeeper, striker, holding midfielder and another centre-back.”
