Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the speculation linking Antonio Conte with a move back to Chelsea.

A report from Calciomercato.it has claimed that Antonio Conte, through an intermediary, has offered himself to Chelsea.

The Blues already have a manager in place, Mauricio Pochettino, but the Argentine has really struggled in the Stamford Bridge dugout this season.

His team are currently ninth in the Premier League table and lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool at the end of February.

His job does not look entirely safe, with The Chelsea Chronicle being told that there is an expectation that he will depart the club at the end of the campaign.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Antonio Conte returning to Chelsea?

There probably are some Chelsea fans who are hoping that Conte really has offered himself to the club.

He did an excellent job during his time in west London, winning both the Premier League title and the FA Cup, while things are obviously not going to plan for Pochettino right now.

However, Romano has rebuffed the claims that Conte is eyeing a return to his former club.

On Substack, the Italian journalist wrote: “Despite reports, it’s not true that Antonio Conte has offered himself to Chelsea. There are no advanced talks with English clubs — it’s absolutely not true.

“We know Conte is open to new opportunities, and Napoli could be a possibility, but it’s not something done or agreed at all, so let’s see what Napoli will decide to do.”

Should Chelsea consider hiring Antonio Conte if they sack Mauricio Pochettino?

Conte may not necessarily be a good fit for this Chelsea squad. It is filled with a lot of young players who are still unproven.

If you look at some of the Italian’s previous teams, like his Chelsea and Juventus sides, they have been experienced ones capable of winning league titles.

That being said, Conte is a world-class coach. If the Blues want to get back to the top, then they probably need someone like him.

If Pochettino does get the sack, then Conte is certainly a name worth considering. To be a success at Stamford Bridge again, though, the club will probably have to give him sharper tools, more experienced players.
