Dominik Szoboszlai looks set to be the latest new signing to become part of Liverpool’s midfield rebuild this summer.
talkSPORT understands that the Reds have agreed a deal for the RB Leipzig star by triggering his £60million release clause.
After two seasons in the Bundesliga, Szoboszlai looks ready to make the move to the Premier League.
Liverpool scored four out of the six penalties they were awarded last season and just three of their five in the Carabao Cup shootout against Derby.
Although such a record is by no means poor, Szoboszlai could be the man to provide more assurance from the spot for the Reds.
The 22-year-old has taken 16 penalties throughout his career for FC Liefering, RB Salzburg, Leipzig and Hungary – successfully converting 15.
His confidence from 12 yard is clear to see as video footage on Twitter shows the midfielder going to the goakeeper’s right every time.
Goalkeepers may well have figured out his preference but they still been can’t stop him due to the power and pace of his shots.
Szoboszlai also begins his technique with a sidestep and a stuttered run-up before striking the ball from the spot.
He has missed just one penalty in his career, an effort that came off the post and hit an opposition goalkeeper when at Leipzig in 2021.
The rest though have all been successful, with three penalties being scored throughout last season.
Once a move to Liverpool is finalised, he is likely to compete for the role as penalty taker alongside Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian has taken 31 penalties for the Reds since he signed from Roma in 2017, scoring 26.
Healthy competition from the spot therefore awaits Liverpool fans from the beginning of next season.
Szoboszlai is set to be the second signing of the summer for Jurgen Klopp’s side after Alexis Mac Allister.
Both additions will add further quality to their midfield as they seek improvement on last season’s 5th place finish.
