Tottenham could be more than 20 points worse off without Harry Kane this season, according to Stuart Pearce.

The striker is one of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window after moving into the final 12 months of his Spurs contract and refusing to sign a new deal.

Bayern Munich are the frontrunners to complete a deal for the 29-year-old, however the north London club are clearly reluctant to sell their star man at any price.

Pearce was a guest on talkSPORT Drive with Andy Goldstein and believes that Tottenham must hold out for a British record fee in excess of £105million if they’re to sell the star.

Asked if Tottenham’s season hinges on Harry Kane’s future, Pearce said: “It’ll go a long way.

“At the start of any season you look at your squad, go through it and see how many goals you’ve got in your squad and each goal equates to a point, near enough.

“If you look at the league table at the end of the season and a team have scored 70 goals then the chances are that they’re in and around 70 points.

“By losing Harry Kane you’re taking a lot of goals out of your team.”

Asked if he’ll leave, Pearce said: “I literally have no idea. If I was someone like Man United I’d come and buy him.

“Whenever you buy a player there’s no resale value because of freedom of contract, so it doesn’t really matter.
