Chelsea could get one of their long-term absentees back before the end of the season.
Wesley Fofana has not kicked a ball this term because of injury. However, according to journalist Simon Phillips, it is not impossible that he makes a return in the current campaign.
He stated on Substack that one source has told him that “there is hope inside Chelsea” that the central defender could feature before this season concludes.
Fofana has been out since the summer after undergoing surgery on his ACL.
The 23-year-old Frenchman has had a tough time at Chelsea since arriving from Leicester City in 2022. He also missed a large chunk of the last campaign because of injury.

It will be good for Fofana if he can get some minutes this term. It is unlikely to make much difference for Chelsea, though.
By the time the France international is back, their campaign will probably be finished.

Following Chelsea’s 4-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend, they are now 11th in the Premier League table and seven points behind Manchester United in sixth.
It is not the largest gap, but it is not exactly the smallest one either, and Mauricio Pochettino‘s side have not shown enough consistency this season to suggest that they can actually close it.
Their defence is really struggling right now, conceding eight goals in their last two games. Having Fofana available at this moment in time would have been great, but it is not like the team’s other options for the centre-back positions are terrible.
Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile should not be conceding four times against Liverpool then another four times against Wolves. It has now been reported that Pochettino could change Chelsea’s formation in a bid to salvage something from this season.
