Andy Jacobs is stunned that there’s a chance Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino may end up making a change in the goalkeeper position.
Despite the fact the League Cup final is this Sunday, Blues supporters don’t categorically know who’ll be the starting keeper in-between the sticks at Wembley Stadium.
Robert Sanchez, 26, started the season as the first-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge. He played up until December when he suffered a knee injury.
Djordje Petrovic, 24, has done a great job since stepping into position for the last couple of months.
Now Sanchez is back fit again, everyone’s intrigued to know if the status over the number one has changed gloves. Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettio refused to give a concrete answer before the weekend’s game versus Manchester City.
Chelsea fans are still in the dark because Sanchez was absent from the squad on Saturday against Man City because of a “personal problem”, as quoted by Nizaar Kinsella’s X account.
We’d only be guessing and speculating when choosing who may start for Chelsea in the cup final against Liverpool. As for the long-term number one position, that’s even more unclear.

TalkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs is stunned at hearing the idea of Sanchez replacing Petrovic ahead of the weekend’s EFL Cup final.
“I can’t believe he’s thinking of bringing Sanchez back. I don’t get that. I think Petrovic has done really well for Chelsea,” Jacobs told talkSPORT (1:41pm, 19 February).
Mauricio Pochettino decision
Based on what we’ve seen this campaign, we’d favour with Petrovic over Sanchez as Chelsea’s starting goalkeeper moving forward.
They’re both not yet the finished article in net. However, we’ve got more confidence in Petrovic’s current ability and potential.
In our view, Petrovic simply has to start this Sunday against Liverpool. It’s the biggest game of the season for the Blues, so you really don’t want to throw Sanchez back into that environment after a couple of months out of action.
