Chelsea defender Axel Disasi managed to help his side earn a point against Manchester City at the Etihad yesterday.
Axel Disasi defended extremely well during the game, leaving Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher really impressed with what he saw from the centre-back.
However, Carragher also enjoyed watching Disasi celebrate a bit of defending he did against Erling Haaland in the first half of the 1-1 draw, picking up on it while commentating on the match for Sky Sports (17/02/2024 at 18:15).
Raheem Sterling scored in the 42nd minute to put Chelsea in front. Rodri equalised in a second half that City dominated.
In the end, though, they were unable to secure all three points, largely because of some excellent defending from Disasi and the rest of Chelsea’s defence.

Carragher liked watching Disasi celebrate his piece of defending against Haaland.

Mauricio Pochettino would have also been celebrating Disasi’s performance yesterday. Without him, the Blues may not have got a point.
Some of his defensive numbers were absolutely phenomenal. For example, the 25-year-old made an incredible 16 clearances, the most in the game and six more than the next player (WhoScored).
He also won four aerial duels, more than any other defender on the pitch. It was a truly monstrous performance from Disasi.
Next up for Chelsea is their biggest game of the season, a clash against rivals Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. A tough fixture, but if Disasi defends the way he did yesterday, the Blues will have a chance at Wembley for sure. After that game versus Pep Guardiola’s side, the Frenchman is a nailed on starter for next weekend.
