One player who Chelsea let leave on a free transfer has now admitted he had large ambitions of being a star at Stamford Bridge.

As has been the policy in West London for some time now, the turnover of players has been high, especially when it comes to academy players.

Very few have been given their chance to impress under Mauricio Pochettino, with only Alfie Gilchrist playing more than a handful of appearances.

The likes of Josh Acheampong have looked promising in limited minutes, however the Argentine has generally trusted the first team players only despite injuries ravaging the squad.

One player who fell victim to this system is Jake Clarke-Salter, who is currently enjoying his time in the Championship with QPR.

Jake Clarke-Salter dreamed of starring at Chelsea

He never made it at Stamford Bridge, although he has told Football League World that he had aspirations of becoming a leader in West London.

He said: “If I’m being totally honest with myself, I had a lot of ambition growing up at Chelsea – captaining Chelsea and England youth sides – and I had some injuries along the way that has hindered my career so to have a home now.

“To be able to stay fit this season, which I always knew would come around again. I’m confident now that I can put those injuries behind me and I’m just happy now at QPR. I have a home, I had a good season in the end and I’m just looking forward to the future.”

The central defensive role at Stamford Bridge right now does look as if it is in for a youthful future, with Thiago Silva set to move on at the end of the season.

This will see a lot of pressure move onto the shoulders of the likes of Levi Colwill, who has at one stage himself already been handed the armband in his first season as a senior Chelsea player.
