Kylian Mbappe has sent a heartfelt message to Lionel Messi as he wished him a happy birthday on social media.
The French forward spent two years playing with the Argentine superstar at Paris Saint-Germain, setting Ligue 1 alight in the process.
However, their time together came to an end with Messi completing a move to Inter Miami this summer upon the end of his contract.
Now 36 years of age, Messi is regarded as arguably the greatest player of all-time, a status that he cemented by guiding Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar last year.
Despite beating Mbappe’s France in the final, the 24-year-old was full of respect for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
He wished him many happy returns and expressed his gratitude for their time together in Paris.
He wrote: “Happy birthday legend. @LeoMessi.
“Wishing you the best day possible with your family and friends. Thank you for these two years together in Paris, I learned a lot from you as a player, partner, opponent and man.
“For that alone I am thankful. Good luck on your new adventure.”
While disappointed that Messi has moved on to pastures new, Mbappe may only have to spend a year in Paris without him.
He appears intent on leaving the club at the end of his contract next summer.
