Kylian Mbappe has been left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for their pre-season tour of Japan.
The news comes just hours after the Frenchman scored in his side’s first friendly of the season, a 2-0 win over Le Havre, which saw his younger brother Ethan debut.
Reports in France claim the decision was communicated to Mbappe by manager Luis Enrique and sporting adviser Luis Campos shortly after the win.
RMC Sport claim that PSG are ‘convinced’ that Mbappe has an agreement to join Real Madrid for free next summer.
Amid intense interest from the Spanish giants last summer, Mbappe signed a two-year extension in Paris, keeping him with the club until 2025 and spurning Madrid’s interest.
However, it later emerged that deal was in fact a one-year agreement with the option of a further year.
Mbappe has since failed to trigger the further year in time for it to come into effect, meaning he can leave in the summer of 2024 for free.
Keen for that scenario not to come to fruition, PSG now appear intent on selling the 24-year-old, with RMC reporting Mbappe is now for sale.
They also add that Premier League and Saudi Pro League sides are looking at the situation.
On July 5, during Luis Enrique’s unveiling as the team’s new manager, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “If he [Mbappe] doesn’t want to sign within two weeks, the door is open.”
That deadline has now passed, meaning PSG could well lose their second superstar of the summer after Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami on a free transfer.
