One former Arsenal star has compared Chelsea’s Cole Palmer to himself.

Cole Palmer had an excellent campaign for Chelsea last season.

In total, the attacker scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances for the Blues.

As a result, Palmer was called up to the England squad for the Euros.

He faces a tough task to get into Gareth Southgate’s starting XI, though, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka also part of the Three Lions’ roster.

Former Arsenal player compares Cole Palmer to himself

Another person connected to Arsenal has been discussing Palmer.

Former Arsenal player Jack Wilshere, who won two FA Cups during his time at the Emirates, can see some similarities between him and Palmer.

Speaking about the England international in his column for The Sun, Wilshere said: “I do see a bit of myself in Palmer. I was 22, like him, when I went to my first major tournament, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Like him, I also used to try to take responsibility. I wanted to get on the ball.

“One of my biggest strengths — which took people time to get used to — was that I wanted to receive the ball with people around me. I wasn’t quick, I liked to beat people and dribble past people. Something Palmer is good at, which I tried to do, is eliminating players with his first touch.”

Jack Wilshere spot on about Cole Palmer

During his playing days, Wilshere certainly was not someone to shy away from a challenge.

He took on Barcelona’s midfield of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets, arguably the best midfield football has ever seen, as a teenager.

Last season, Palmer also took on a lot of responsibility at Chelsea.

He arrived at Stamford Bridge as a 21-year-old with not too much experience. However, that did not stop him from stepping up and winning points for Chelsea time and again.

In April, he scored back-to-back home hat-tricks against Manchester United and Everton. That is the definition of a player taking responsibility.

Not quite Barcelona in the Champions League, but you can see why Wilshere is seeing some of himself in Palmer, who still has so much time to get even better.
