Liverpool are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig for attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, talkSPORT understands.
The Hungary captain has a £60million release clause in his contract, but that is due to expire imminently.
Sources have told talkSPORT Newcastle are not competing with Liverpool for Szoboszlai, despite reports the Magpies were also tracking him.
The interest in Szoboszlai demonstrates the Reds’ intent to rebuild their midfield ahead of next season.
World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister joined the club earlier this summer from Brighton, whilst James Milner signing for the Seagulls on a free transfer.
Szoboszlai made 46 appearances for RB Leipzig last season as they finished third in the Bundesliga, just four points off champions Bayern Munich.
The midfielder scored 10 goals in all competitions whilst also providing 13 assists.
Szoboszlai made his senior debut in 2017 with Austrian outfit FC Liefering, the reserve team of RB Salzburg.
He later moved to RB Leipzig for £17million, making him the most expensive Hungarian footballer of all time.
Since then he’s netted 20 goals and made 22 assists in 91 appearances for the club.
