Marcus Rashford has revealed that he considered leaving Manchester United during his darker days at the club.

The England international is arguably Erik ten Hag’s most important player having bagged 30 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last term.

Having scored just five times in 2021/22, Rashford seemed to have lost his way at Man United, leading to suggestions he could be offloaded in order to enjoy a fresh challenge.

Paris Saint-Germain were linked with a strong interest in the forward, with claims they saw the Englishman as an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

However, after signing a new five-year contract at Old Trafford, it’s very clear that Rashford intends to spend his prime years in the red of his boyhood club.

But that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t considered leaving in a past.

Asked if he previously considered leaving, Rashford said: “Before the manager came maybe a little bit. But it’s football, it happens.

“Everything is going to happen for a reason and he [Ten Hag] came to the club at the right time for me. The timing worked out.

“Now the conversation is a little bit different because I think it’s clear, the manager is very ambitious and he has been since the minute he stepped in. I didn’t really have doubt in my mind about that.

“I’m hungry to keep improving and the squad and the players and the staff keep improving and getting used to each other, pushing ourselves to be better than we were the year before.

“That’s the only way we’re going to get back to winning trophies consistently.”
